NSM — Narrative Strength Model
What It Measures
NSM measures the strength and compounding power of a narrative across Telegram’s creator ecosystem. A strong narrative is one that spreads organically between creators, accumulates depth with each retelling, and persists beyond its initial introduction.
Weak narratives spike and collapse. Strong narratives compound — each new creator who picks up the story makes it harder to ignore and more likely to reach new audiences.
Formula
NSM = Frequency × Depth × CreatorDensity| Variable | Definition |
|---|---|
Frequency | Normalized count of how often the narrative appears across monitored channels in a given time window |
Depth | Average substance per mention — threads generated, questions asked, replies with substantive engagement |
CreatorDensity | Number of distinct independent creators propagating the narrative, normalized by ecosystem size |
Why Narratives Compound
Strong narratives exhibit a compounding mechanic:
- Initial seeding — A few high-credibility creators introduce the narrative
- Cross-pollination — Other creators pick it up independently, each adding their framing
- Audience overlap reduction — As more creators with different audiences carry the narrative, it reaches net-new people
- Persistence — The narrative survives post-TGE because it is decoupled from any single channel’s promotional cycle
Weak narratives skip steps 2 and 3. They spread through a coordinated single event (one announcement, one partnership), generate a spike, and collapse when the promotional energy ends.
Why Weak Narratives Decay Post-TGE
Most crypto narratives are event-bound. They exist to serve the token launch. After the TGE, with no new promotional event to sustain them, they decay rapidly.
Structurally strong narratives are thesis-bound, not event-bound. They are built around a durable idea (infrastructure, protocol mechanics, new behavior) rather than an event (launch date, airdrop). Creator density is the primary differentiator: if only the project’s own channel carries the narrative, it dies with the promotional cycle.
High CreatorDensity is the single strongest predictor of narrative persistence. If 8+ independent creators are propagating a narrative without coordination, that narrative has structural depth.
Creator Density and Narrative Persistence
| CreatorDensity | Narrative Persistence Probability |
|---|---|
| 1–2 creators | Low — narrative dependent on single source |
| 3–5 creators | Moderate — early organic spread |
| 6–10 creators | High — narrative is self-sustaining |
| 10+ creators | Very high — thesis-bound, compounding |
Role in REP
NSM contributes to REP as a proxy for durable attention. A community with high AVI (accelerating attention) and high NSM (compounding narrative) has the structural conditions for sustained relevance. NSM is weighted approximately equally to AVI in REP composition.
